Dr Robin Chakraverty qualified in 1986 from the Welsh National School of Medicine. He has worked as a specialist in Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust, Birmingham since 1999 and at the Nuffield Hospital Birmingham since 2000 where he has consistently seen in the region of 600 new patients per year, the majority of whom have spine-related symptoms. His patient caseload varies enormously from the frail and elderly to the young elite athlete. His approach to patients is based on his previous experience in general practice (having received vocational training in Her Majesty’s Royal Navy) and his subsequent training at the London College of Osteopathic Medicine (1995-97). He has since developed a special interest in spinal injections, having received training through the International Spinal Intervention Society, using them as a means of diagnosing and treating subacute and chronic low back pain and sciatica. He has performed in the region of 1000 injection procedures per year for the last 8 years, holding 2-3 spinal injection sessions at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and 1-2 at the Nuffield Hospital each week. He has published several papers on the accuracy, safety and outcomes of spinal injection procedures.

He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer for the University of Birmingham where he is involved in undergraduate training.
