The Nuffield Hospital Birmingham

The West Midlands Spinal Medical Clinic is based at the Nuffield Hospital Birmingham where the majority of assessments and treatments take place. An outreach outpatient clinic is also based in Sutton Coldfield.

The clinic is run by Dr Robin Chakraverty who established a clinic at the Nuffield Hospital in 1999 dealing with patients with a variety of musculoskeletal complaints, primarily back pain. The majority of patients seen are for non-surgical management of their condition, including appropriate advice, investigation and treatment.

Most investigations can be organized on-site (blood tests, xrays, MRI scans, CT scans) although occasionally these are provided at other local hospitals (some MRI scans, isotope bone scans.)

A number of treatments can be initiated in the outpatient clinic (manipulation, dry needling and some injections), some require the use of x-ray facilities on-site (most spinal injection procedures) and occasionally operating theatre facilities are used forinjection procedures requiring sedation and radiofrequency lesioning.

Where the treatment required is outside the scope of the clinic (e.g. surgical) there are well-established links to other specialists in the area and referrals can be made.

Ongoing treatments such as physiotherapy can take place at the clinic site but again there are links to physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors and acupuncturists further a field so that often treatment may continue at a more convenient site.
